The Recco Jeans are named in honor of Nicoloso da Recco, a renowned 14th-century Italian navigator from Genoa. In 1341, Recco embarked on an expedition to the Canary Islands on behalf of King Afonso IV of Portugal. He is credited with providing the first reliable account of the language used by the aboriginal inhabitants of the Canary Islands, the Guanches. His detailed notes included information on their language, clothing, food habits, and societal hierarchy.
